Step-by-step: prepare your NEET photo

  1. Take a passport-style photo. Use a plain white background. Face the camera directly. Both eyes open and clearly visible. No glasses. No hair covering the face. Good, even lighting with no harsh shadows.
  2. Crop to portrait orientation. The photo should show the face and shoulders, with the top of the head not cropped. Approximate ratio: 3.5 cm wide by 4.5 cm tall.
  3. Convert to JPEG if needed. If your photo is in PNG, HEIC, or WebP format, convert to JPEG first. Many portals only accept JPG.
  4. Compress to 50–100 KB. This safely meets the 10–200 KB requirement with a good margin. Avoid compressing below 10 KB as the image will be blurry.
  5. Verify file size before uploading. Right-click the file, select Properties (Windows) or Get Info (Mac), and confirm it is between 10 KB and 200 KB.

Common NEET photo rejection reasons

  • Wrong format — PNG or WebP submitted instead of JPG. Always convert to JPEG.
  • File too large — above 200 KB. Compress using UploadReady to 50–100 KB.
  • File too small — below 10 KB. The image is too compressed and will be blurry. Re-compress at a higher quality setting.
  • Coloured background — must be plain white. No outdoor or patterned backgrounds.
  • Glasses or face obstruction — remove glasses and ensure full face is visible.
